• Question: Why are a lot of animals allergic to chocolate? Why do some need chocolate specifically made for that animal? (For example: gerbil chocolate)?

Animals are not allergic to chocolate – rather, chocolate is *toxicMATOMO_URL There’s a compound called xanthine in chocolate, which doesn’t harm humans but does hurt animals like dogs. You can buy chocolate with the xanthine taken out, or have a similar thing that doesn’t have xanthine in (for example, carob tastes a bit like chocolate and is often eaten by humans as a replacement).
