River and sea pollution has gotten better in the West – we have fewer factories polluting rivers, and we have better laws to prevent people dumping waste into them. But it’s still a problem in places like China. The solution is to make better laws to stop people polluting, and come up with new technologies that make less pollution.

I think we are able to now – all we need to do is stop working in factories and making energy. But, doing that would stop people making things in factories and improving their lifestyles, and keeping warm in winter and cool in summer. The problem is – more and more pollution means worse lifestyles in the long term as it makes people and the environment sick. As Sam says, this is mostly a big problem in the developing world, those people make the most pollution. However, once that pollution is in the enrivonment it spreads out and makes places far away sick as well…. We need better technologies and to stop being so wasteful – like if it is a nice day outside – open a window instead of turning on the air conditioner!
