There are little pockets of fluid in your ears that tell your brain which way up you’re facing. If you lie down, the fluid sloshes 90 degrees and your brain knows about it because tiny hairs in the pocket of fluid get pushed to one side by the fluid sloshing that direction. But if you spin round and round, the fluid sloshes all over, and your brain gets very confused because it doesn’t know what direction you’re facing, making you feel dizzy. You can stop feeling dizzy faster by turning round the other way, which stops the fluid spinning round in your ear.
