It’s based at CERN, which is the European Organisation for Nuclear Physics, which spans the border of France and Switzerland near Geneva.
The ATLAS experiment – the detector itself, is located about 100m underground, at a place on the LHC ring we call “Point 1”. Which is almost on the actual border line itself, and near the Swiss town called Meyrin.
