Short answer – a wide variety to try and learn as many skills as possible.

Long answer – I’ve done a lot of different experiments. In my first two years, I went through a lot of lab training to teach me basic techniques and ideas that get used all the time in labs.

In my third year, I did a 20 week project on making very big molecules with kind of tunnels through them. The general idea was that we could use these to get radioactive waste out of the ground and clean up areas around nuclear plants. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very good at it and so I didn’t get anywhere.

For the last two years, I’ve been working on making the kinds of molecules I described in my profile. I also had a bit of time out to learn a load of stuff about some techniques in electrical engineering and biology.
